Just because you don’t use it, it’s still protecting your laptop. You need to find something less useful to delete to free up some space.
I would not delete it. It might be useful, even if you don’t use it. Keep it, but scan it at least 3 times a month. Be sure to update it though. If you do get rid of it, be sure to get another free software like AVG. Download it here: free.avg.com
If you have another anti-virus program then it’s a good idea to uninstall one of them (although Avast is one of the best).
If you don’t have another AV program then it’s a very bad idea. It helps keep you safe, even if you don’t interact with it.
PLEASE: don’t run with no AV then come back here asking how to remove malware from your laptop.
